Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, or IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, is a prestigious public technical and research university located in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. Its history began in 1926 when it was established as the Indian School of Mines (ISM) by the British Government. The institute was formally converted into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2016 under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act.

It offers undergraduate (B.Tech), postgraduate (M.Tech, MBA, M.Sc.), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programs, with admission to its B.Tech courses highly competitive, based on the JEE Advanced exam. The institute consistently ranks well nationally; for example, it was ranked 15th in the Engineering category in the NIRF 2024 ranking.

BTech in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Other courses are Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Engineering Physics, Environmental Engineering, Mining Machinery Engineering, Mineral and Metallurgical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, and Petroleum Engineering.

Admission to the B.Tech program at IIT Dhanbad is through the JEE system: candidates must first qualify JEE Main, then appear for and qualify JEE Advanced. Based on the JEE Advanced score, students are selected for admission through the JoSAA Counselling process. Eligibility also requires meeting the Class 12 requirements, which are at least 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, or being in the top 20 percentile of your board.
