Established in 2017 as an Institute of National Importance, AIIMS Guwahati is a premier autonomous medical university and hospital located in Changsari, Assam. It was established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) to correct regional imbalances in healthcare and was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2023.
The institution offers an annual intake of 125 MBBS students and has expanded to include B.Sc Nursing, MD/MS, and PhD programs. Spanning a lush 189-acre campus, the facility features a 750-bed hospital with over 25 specialty and super-specialty departments, including advanced trauma care and a state-of-the-art oncology wing. As the first AIIMS in Northeast India, it serves as a critical hub for high-quality medical education, research, and tertiary healthcare for the entire region.

MBBS admission is through NEET UG, followed by MCC Counselling, requiring a valid NEET score, minimum PCB marks (50% Gen/40% SC/ST/OBC), age 17+, and document submission (X-ray, ECG, reports, etc.) during reporting after seat allotment via counseling rounds. The process involves clearing NEET, registering for MCC, choosing AIIMS Guwahati in choice filling, and completing formalities.
