The JEE Main is India’s premier national-level engineering entrance exam, serving as the primary gateway to undergraduate programs (B.Tech/B.E.) at the NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). Conducted twice a year (typically in January and April) by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam is entirely computer-based (CBT). It also acts as the mandatory qualifying round for JEE Advanced, which is the sole entry point for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The test evaluates students on their mastery of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from both the Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT curriculum.

Subject-Wise Summary
Physics: Focuses heavily on application-based problems. Mechanics and Electromagnetism generally account for nearly 50% of the paper.
Chemistry: Divided into Physical (calculative), Organic (mechanisms), and Inorganic (memory-based). The 2026 syllabus places extra emphasis on General Organic Chemistry (GOC) and Chemical Bonding.
Mathematics: Known for being the most time-consuming section. Calculus (Integral & Differential) and Algebra (Matrices, Vectors) are the highest scoring pillars.
Note: Even though some chapters are “deleted” from the JEE Main official list, their basic concepts are often necessary to solve complex problems in other high-weightage chapters.
The exam is a 3-hour Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of 75 questions in total.
