The qualifying cut-off for NEET-PG 2025 has been reduced, resulting in 95,913 additional candidates becoming eligible for postgraduate medical admissions. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) informed the Supreme Court of India about this development during the ongoing proceedings related to the examination and admission process.
According to NBEMS, the decision to lower the qualifying percentile was taken to address the large number of vacant postgraduate medical seats across the country. With the revised cut-off, many more candidates who were previously declared ineligible have now qualified and will be able to participate in the counselling process.
The board explained that this move aims to ensure optimal seat utilisation and prevent wastage of medical education resources. By expanding eligibility, authorities expect that more seats in MD, MS, and other postgraduate medical programs will be filled during counselling rounds.
The Supreme Court was informed that after the reduction in the cut-off percentile, a total of 95,913 additional candidates have now met the eligibility criteria. This significant increase is expected to impact the ongoing admission process and counselling schedule.
The development comes amid concerns over vacant seats and the need to streamline postgraduate medical admissions in India. The final outcome of the matter will depend on further directions from the court regarding the counselling process and related procedures.
