Postgraduate Medical Seats Increased as NMC Grants 777 Approvals

The National Medical Commission has given the go ahead for an increase in postgraduate medical seats all over the country. This decision came after they looked at requests from medical colleges. The National Medical Commission thought about it again. Then allowed 777 more postgraduate medical seats to be added in 125 medical colleges, for the current academic session. The National Medical Commission made this decision to add postgraduate medical seats.

These approvals came after some institutions did not agree with decisions. They had asked to add seats but were told no. They could only add a few. The commission looked at these requests again. Checked if the institutions met the necessary standards. This includes things like having teachers, good buildings, hospital facilities and enough patients. The commission found that some colleges were good enough to get approved. They gave approvals to these colleges for seat expansion. The commission approved the proposals of some institutions for seat expansion.

The National Medical Commission did not agree to all the requests they got. The National Medical Commission turned down the requests of 76 colleges. They said these National Medical Commission colleges did not meet the rules even after they looked at them again.

The National Medical Commission also sent back the cases of 12 colleges. They need to look at some National Medical Commission colleges. So they have not made a decision on these National Medical Commission colleges yet.

The Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel shared this information in the Parliament of India. She was answering questions about how approvals work and how seats people get after they appeal. This is what Anupriya Patel said in the Parliament of India about the approval process for seats and the number of seats granted after appeals.

The decision is expected to provide relief to thousands of medical graduates seeking specialization opportunities, as the increase in PG seats will expand training capacity in various disciplines across the country. At the same time, the rejections highlight the commission’s emphasis on maintaining quality standards in medical education.
