Even though the top NITs and IIITs may need a percentile, students who score in this range can look at many state government engineering colleges, private universities and some of the newer NITs, which depends on the category and home-state quota.
If you score 70 to 80 percentile you can think about doing Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and other such basic engineering courses in colleges.
You have to remember that getting a seat also depends on things like the category you belong to, how many seats are available and what the cut-off was, in the previous years.
It is very important for students to take part in JoSAA and the state-level counselling to increase their chances of getting a college.
It is also an idea to keep some private universities as backup options.
A score of 70 to 80 percentile can still get you into an engineering college if you plan things carefully and keep track of the counselling rounds.
