The Supreme Court of India said no to a petition that wanted a round for admissions under NEET PG 2025. This means the counselling process is over and there will not be any chances for students to get the remaining seats.
A group of students asked for this round because many postgraduate medical seats were still empty after the regular rounds of counselling. They wanted the authorities to have one round so that these empty seats could be given to students who were still waiting to get in.
The court said no to this idea. It said that the admission process has to follow a timeline and having another round now would mess up the schedule. The judges also said that having extensions again and again can cause confusion and delay the start of classes, which would affect the institutions.
Because of this decision, more than 1,100 postgraduate medical seats in colleges across India will stay empty for the year 2025. This is a number, especially since so many students want to get into medical school.
The court also said it is important to follow the rules during counselling. It said that rules and deadlines are in place to make sure everything is fair and goes smoothly and making exceptions many times can cause problems in the future.
For students this means they will not get another chance to participate in counselling, for this year. Students who were hoping to get in through a round will have to wait for next year or look at other options.
So the Supreme Court’s decision shows that it is better to follow the counselling schedule even if some seats do not get filled, rather than making last-minute changes that could cause problems. The NEET PG 2025 counselling process is now over. Students will have to wait and see what happens next year.
